Parks Board Meeting March 10

The Park Board meeting on Monday will be an opportunity for staff to introduce this project to the Board.

The meeting is open to the public and will begin at 11:30 am, March 10, at the Public Works Bdg (1400 NE 16th Avenue). Park Board meetings are less formal than City Council or Planning Commission meetings, and are a great opportunity to get informed and provide your input.

The discussion will focus on aspects of subdivisions that are within the scope of the Board, specifically:

  1. Connectivity between subdivisions for pedestrians and cyclists;
  2. Low Impact Development (LID) techniques;
  3. Requirements and designs of buffers, and open space; and,
  4. Neighborhood trails and park design.

Staff Technical Meeting

Much of the work on this project has been the analysis of current conditions and community outreach. This Monday, staff begin the first major discussion specifically about the subdivision regulations. The topic will be short plats; small subdivisions of land into nine or less lots.

These plats in the city, can provide opportunities for infill that has little effect on the character of neighborhoods; and reduces sprawl and associated environmental impacts by using land more efficiently.

There are parts of the rules for short plats that have made them rather difficult to complete; which is limiting the ability to use short plats as a way of creating residential lots. In this Monday’s meeting staff will explore options to make the rules more effective.
